During our review process, we had to research «Kemet», an ancient Egyptian term for the land around the Nile, which translates to «Black Land». This term refers to the fertile black soil created by the annual flooding of the Nile. Gods of Kemet is a game focused on ancient Egyptian deities, with a somewhat outdated visual presentation. As is typical with Wizard Games, the math model fluctuates with the RTP settings, but the maximum win is approximately 2,000 times your stake. The game is highly volatile and features periodic 3×3 Big Block Symbols in the base game. These Big Blocks appear on every free spin, and the main highlight is the hold-and-win style Fire Ball round with jackpots up to 1,000 times your stake. The four premium character symbols and the book Wild yield between four and six times your stake for five matching symbols, while the Wild serves to substitute for regular pay symbols to complete winning combinations. The Big Block Symbol feature is triggered randomly, but only when a regular pay symbol lands on the center position of reel 3. All other symbols on reels 2, 3 and 4 will then explode, and the center position symbol will expand into a 3×3 big block for a new win calculation. The Bonus Round is activated when you land three, four or five scatters anywhere in view, granting eight, twelve or fifteen free spins, respectively. During these spins, reels 2, 3 and 4 merge and land 3×3 Big Block symbols on every spin. If a scatter lands as a 3×3 Big Block, you get three extra spins, and the Fire Ball feature triggers if you land a Fire Ball as a Big Block. The Fire Ball feature can be triggered by landing six or more Fire Balls in the base game as well, with these Fire Balls becoming sticky on a cleared grid. You start with three respins and the count resets whenever you land at least one non-blank symbol. The regular Fire Ball symbols come with cash prizes between 0.8 and 100 times your stake. The Fire Ball feature ends when you run out of respins, or if you fill all 15 positions with non-blank symbols. Your total win is then summed up, but there is no jackpot reward for filling the grid. Gods of Kemet doesn’t offer anything new, with both the ancient Egyptian theme and the features having been seen numerous times in different forms. The random Big Block feature can create some excitement in the base game, but the most you can hope for is 240 times your stake. With a larger overall potential, this game could have been more positively distinctive. The game has a win cap of over 2,000 times your stake (varies with RTP version), and it’s also possible to crack this potential in the Fire Ball feature. However, most of the time you’ll get lower-value Fire Ball prizes unless you land a Super Bonus jackpot ball. Overall, Wizard Games’ Gods of Kemet is a mediocre addition to an overcrowded genre and is unlikely to be remembered for long. Similar games include Goddess of Fortunes, another Wizard Games’ hold-and-win game; Emeralds of Oz, a game based on the Wizard of Oz tale; and Links of Ra, a volatile ancient Egypt game from Slingshot Studios.
